Knox Evans 1935 Book: Araminta Story Of A Black Girl
This is the 9th Impression book (1935) called Araminta by Eva Knox Evans. Publisher was Minton, Balch and Co. NY and it was illustrated by Erick Berry. It has an orange illustrated hardcover in sturdy library binding and is an ex-library book. There are 84 pages. There is no dust jacket. It is the story of Araminta, a Black child, who spends a summer at her grandma's house in the country. There are 10 full-page black/white illustrations along with other smaller ones. It is in excellent condition with no torn or loose pages and the binding is still nice and firm. Illustration 1

Black Americana Toy - Mechanical Rolling Eye Toy (German)
This tin, mechanical German-made (marked such on back) toy features a Googley-eyed face whose eyes rotate when the string is pulled. It was probably made sometime in the 1920s or 1930s. It is about 2-1/2" in diameter. It is in very good condition. The litho front has only a few places of light paint wear. There is some mottling on the metal on the back side of the piece but nothing that can be seen from the front.

1940s Black Americana Tea Towel - Embroidered Mammy
This vintage (probably 1930s or 1940s) linen tea towel features an embroidered mammy followed by a little girl. The scan shows the folded towel and the side of the towel that has the image. There is no image on the other side. The lower edge has a crocheted red fringe.The towel is 25" long and 14-1/4" wide. It is in very good shape with the exception of a couples of holes in one spot and a little yellowing of the material. I have reduced the price to reflect this flaw.

View 6 Hy-Beaute Chemical Company was located at 268 Auburn Ave. in Atlanta, Georgia. I would guess the age of this sign as 30s or 40s. It is in very good condition with flaws being a 1-1/2" tear in right border, a 1/2" tear in left border and light water stain along bottom border. Included with the item is the backing board (the sign is not attached to the backboard) and it is enclosed in a plastic bag. I will ship it enclosed safely between two sheets of sturdy cardboard.

This vintage (probably 1930s or 1940s) linen tea towel features a mammy holding a spoon and singing. The picture is of the folded towel and the image shown is repeated on the side of the towel that is not shown. The wide white border edged in red goes around the entire image. The towel is 26" long and 15-1/2" wide.It is in excellent shape - no tears, holes or stains and the colors are still bright and vivid with only very, very slight fading.

It is about 6" high is a incised copyright but I cannot make out what it says. I would guess that its age is somewhere in the 1950s or 1960s. It is in very good condition with no cracks, chips or crazing and the colors are still nice and fresh.

This creamer with an Uncle Mose handle was produced by F&F Dye Works, Inc. of Dayton, Ohio and is one of their kitchenware series showing the Moses and Jemima couple. It is marked with the F&F shield on the bottom. It is in excellent shape - no cracks, repairs and only a couple of spots where the paint is worn - a small spot on top of the head and a pin prick area on trouser leg.

Black Memorabilia - Bank Boy On Turtle Paper Mache
This bank is made of what I would call paper mache and features a boy in straw hat (I forgot to have it on when taking the picture) riding a turtle. This is a souvenir from Florida. It stands about 6-3/4" high and is about 5-1/2" long. My guess is that this bank is from the 1940s or 1950s. It is in very good condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. The only flaw is that the rein attachment is missing from the boy's hand.

This highly glazed ceramic figurine of a guitar player in plaid jacket and blue pants is 3-3/4" high. It is marked on the base "Carluster Orton Made in Italy." It has an opening in the top as if it were meant to be a vase or some sort of container - no lid. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and the only paint wear is on the face under the nose.

This ceramic ashtray is marked "Japan" on the bottom. A boy in a tux is playing a horn and is perched atop the tray. It is 3" high and the base is 4-1/4" long. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and only very minimal paint wear. I would guess this piece to be from the 1930s or 1940s.

This ceramic piece shows a native boy riding an elephant. There is a chain attached under the elephant's neck. It is about 3" high and 4-1/2" long. There is a smeared mark on one of the feet that appears that it might have said "Japan." It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and some light crazing. This is an older piece - probably sometime from the 1940s or 1950s.

Aunt Jemima Pancake Making Kit
This pancake cooking set in box consists of nine pieces: special batter squeezer tube; 2 pc. batter squeezer tip; yellow plunger that goes into the batter squeezer tube; funnel; heat resistant turner; measuring cup; wire whisk; 2-way teaspoon - tablespoon; serving plate. In addition, there is the instruction sheet and a coupon for Aunt Jemima syrup (expired in 12/1988). This set was made by A.R.C. and is copyrighted 1986 by Quaker Oats Company. The image of Aunt Jemima appears on all six sides of the box. The box is in good condition - just a few little scrapes where it was taped and a couple of small creases on the tab end where the box was opened. The contents are in excellent shape also.
