Majolica Overlapping Begonia Leaves Plate
This Majolica plate measures 8-1/2" in diameter. It is in the Overlapping Begonia pattern that was made popular by the Griffin, Smith and Hill Company of Ohio during the late 1800s and early 1900s. However, this piece does not carry their mark and is only marked with an incised "33." It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing on the front. The underside has some crazing which is not uncommon on an item of this vintage (pre-1900). There are a couple of flaws from the manufacturing - a couple of very small places on the leaves where there was a build up of the glaze. These places are very small and not noticeable unless examined closely.

The leaf is surrounded by other leaves, flowers, grapes, strawberries and white flowers on a turquoise background. The underside of the plate is incised with "Wedgwood" along with what I make out to be "AIH. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing on the front. The underside has some staining which is not uncommon on an item of this vintage (pre-1900).
